Two heroes; Wharf to Wharf 2005
Lance Armstrong won his 7th consecutive Tour de France title today, his victory of margin 4:40. I wish he would go for the hour world record, but he really has nothing to prove. Next year I think I'll cheer for his friend and rival Ivan Basso, who came in second this year ahead of Jan Ullrich. Seven titles, in a row. I can't imagine seeing anything like that again in my lifetime.
Dean Karnazes, an ultramarathoner, recently became a new hero of mine after I read his book, Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner. I'm inspired to run a little bit faster and a little bit further every time I hit the road or trail. He has run 262 miles without stopping, and I think he's still on his quest to run over 300 miles non-stop. Check out his website: www.ultramarathonman.com
Today I ran the 33rd annual Wharf to Wharf 6-mile race with Pablo, Rachel, & Martin. I love that race because it's by the ocean, the starting temperature is in the 50s, the course is relatively flat, and there are live music performances on the side of the road. As usual, it was crowded most of the way, so I cruised to a 1:03:06. The temperature was so comfortable that I felt like I could go on for at least another 4-6 miles.
"Pre-race Pabs"

Whatever works to get rid of the pre-race jitters...
